What is a Pool Drain?
A pool drain is a grating-like cover that is placed over the outlet pipe at the bottom of the pool basin. This component must be installed firmly and securely so that it cannot be moved by swimmers or other objects. These pool drains are similar to the ones we use in our homes, but they differ in size and type. Pool drains are usually placed in the deeper parts of the pool, or the pool basin, to ensure that they can draw the entire volume of water towards them.
Functions of a Pool Drain
Pool drains serve two main purposes. First, they filter the water and transfer it to the filtration system, then return the heated, clean water back into the pool. Second, if the water can no longer be filtered, or if it is decided to completely drain the pool, the pool drain is used to empty all the water, after which the pool can be refilled.
Materials of Pool Drains
The first pool drains were made of plastic and that was the only material available on the market. Over the years, with the evolving design of bathrooms and pools, it was decided to manufacture them in stainless steel as well. The reason for this change is that stainless steel pool drains offer excellent resistance to cleaners and
acidic materials. Due to this advantage, stainless steel drains have replaced plastic ones. Additionally, stainless steel drains are more aesthetically pleasing.
Following these two materials, brass drains also entered the market. Brass drains, with their golden color and high durability, provide an excellent option for resisting wear and tear.
